Apple Vision Pro

Observations

Four hours in - I had full passthrough on, and was confused to find that the option to connect to my MacBook Pro was not present. It took me about 15 seconds to realize that was because the virtual display was aligned with my real monitor, and I didn't perceive the difference.

Some apps that I regularly use on my iPad aren't available in the visionOS store, even as "compatible apps". Examples (as of February 16, 2024):

  • Facebook Messenger

Suggestions

When I'm fully immersed and controlling my Mac, or have a bluetooth keyboard connected, I'd like to have a dynamic passthrough window. While I can touch type fine, positioning my hands on the keyboard after raising them to gesture is a pain. That's compounded because the keyboard on my MBP doesn't have obvious positional references - it's not like I can feel the edges of it, and the tactile bumps on the 'f' and 'j' keys to demarc the home row are not very prominent.

Discord

Cannot upload a photo to a conversation. Selecting the action does not pop up the integrated photo selector as it would on iPadOS. Copying from the (native) Photos app, pasting into the message field behaves as if the clipboard is empty. I am, however, able to copy and paste from within Discord.

When typing a new message that is longer than a single line, the bottom line "flickers". It's visible while typing, but disappears when I stop.

None of the controls on the top edge of the app seem to work with eye tracking, even immediately after recalibration. I am able to select them using a connected trackpad.
